Can you tell me where the original source data is held and whether it is publicly available?
The data about schools on the site comes from 3 sources; The Department for Children, Schools and Families (http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/), Ofsted (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/) and Edubase (http://www.edubase.gov.uk/). All of these are publically available as websites, and edubase offers it's data (http://www.edubase.gov.uk/about.xhtml) under the the PSI Click-Use licence (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/click-use/psi-licence-information/index.htm). I have attempted to make the data collated on the schoolmap site available in a variety of formats using a fairly simple REST interface (XML, GeoRSS, KML, JSON). If you are interested in using any of these please drop me a line (ave.wrigley@ave.wrigley.name)
Why are there no Scottish / Northern Irish schools on the site?
The school data on the schoolmaps website is derived from three sources; edubase (http://www.edubase.gov.uk/), the Ofsted website (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/) and the DCSF website (http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/), all of which only cover school in England an Wales. I am looking for a similar data source for Scotland and NI, and will add this when I can!
